"Throughout his life, The RZA studied the Supreme Mathematics of Gods and Earths and many world religions. From these studies, he noted that both the Supreme Mathematics and the religions he connected to considered the number seven as divine and symbolic of the consciousness. When it came to writing The Tao of Wu, The RZA decided to divide his text into "Seven Pillars of Wisdom." Each pillar reflects a key turning point in his life that he wishes to share with his audience. He does this because he hope his readers will learn from his experiences and connect to or be inspired by his personal journey on the path to enlightenment."

The night of the block party, MC Punch & Quincy were RZA's inspiration to writing. That night something had spoken to him, and started his path in hip-hop.
DeleteMC Punch and Quincy were RZA's inspiration to writing music. Even though Quincy and MC Punch were simply repeating 2 simple rhymes over the mic all night long, it really got his attention and he felt a state of intense excitement and happiness. That same night he heard one of those MC's speaking words over the music being played. RZ's always had written lyrics but he had never heard words spoken over a beat like that before and it really inspired him.

DeleteEdited version of previous post: The RZA spend his most formative years on was Staten Island. In many cultures an island is considered to an ideal home. Its surrounded by water, which provides life. An island is isolated; it keeps you away from the masses, so the rest of society doesn't have much influence on you. An island allows you to be independent and find your own strength. Being on an island gives you a better chance to see the nature of life. For RZA, Staten Island kept him and his crew from being influenced by the constant changes in hip-hop. The island allowed for them to find and create their own unique style. Living on an island also gave RZA a break from the hustle and negativity of other people, and gave him a chance to reconnect with himself.

Do you believe that singers and musical performers are as educated in music as they should be? Explain your response.
ReplyDeleteI believe that singers and musician leaners as they go. To be a good song writer or singer you have to diversify your out look on different types of music. To think about things like, why people like or don't like about different styles of music. So maybe they can change up there style by including or to try another musical style. If that doesn't work out for the musician then hopefully they will gain a new respect for the other styles.

What RZA means when he said "In a sense, we are all Wu-Tang" goes back to the original Chinese meaning of the word 'Wu-Tang': 'Man who is deserving of God'. He elaborates that everyone is deserving of God "Allah's Truth is within us all, all the time---a seed waiting for light to help it grow." That all people can strive to their own Oneness, Allah, or God/s.
DeleteWu-Tang has many meanings, one would be "Man deserving of God".We all are deserving of God. He means that we are all One. We are all part of the oneness that connects everything. Being one with God or Allah.

ReplyDeleteIn the Introduction, RZA speaks of the teaching of Da'Mo and how the misery of the projects brought forth a certain flower that wouldn't have grown anywhere else. Do you think the beauty which can emerge from the harshest environments is proof of the need for those environments and/or the beauty represents the resilience of the spirit of life? Agree or Disagree with one or both statements and elaborate on your choice.

ReplyDeleteWhen Rza said "it's harder to make the glass than break the glass" he means that a wise man would think more than twice before speaking because it is easy to break a person down than to build a person up.

In the begging of the first pillar RZA mentions a passage from the bible and the Koran, after reading the first pillar how/where does RZA first mention his exposure to religion? Do you think RZA was forced to learn about religion or simply just curious? Explain your reasoning.
