"Throughout his life, The RZA studied the Supreme Mathematics of Gods and Earths and many world religions. From these studies, he noted that both the Supreme Mathematics and the religions he connected to considered the number seven as divine and symbolic of the consciousness. When it came to writing The Tao of Wu, The RZA decided to divide his text into "Seven Pillars of Wisdom." Each pillar reflects a key turning point in his life that he wishes to share with his audience. He does this because he hope his readers will learn from his experiences and connect to or be inspired by his personal journey on the path to enlightenment."

How many callings did RZA have before he went into his lessons full heartedly? Who was it that gave him that last tipping point and why?
ReplyDeleteRZA had three calling's, the first one was his cousin Daddy-O with his teachings of the twelve Jewels. The second was his cousin GZA with the teachings about Mathematics and Knowledge of self and god. Then the last calling came from his aunt's boyfriend named Donald, that had an addiction problem. RZA,seen this man as his future if he didn't go back to the teachings. He see that the man's faith has fallen and that he let life in the hood consume him

RZA had three callings before he went into his lessons full heartedly. His aunt's boyfriend was the last person he recieved a calling from; a dope fiend who had lost his Knowledge of Self. This really hit RZA because this man was a living example of what happens when you stray.

ReplyDeleteThe jewels are: knowledge, wisdom, understanding, freedom, justice, equality, food, clothing, shelter, love, peace and happiness. Each breaks down in a chain reaction. Something that makes you small, have faith that your mind can transform it. Mathematics is the first governing principle but the jewels have a bigger impact. These don't come to you, you must strive and prepare. The twelves jewels apply to everyone, everywhere.
DeleteRZA stops his teachings after he fight's with his brother Universal King. He say's "he let anger come between him and his righteousness".

I think anger is a very strong emotion. It can take control of your whole body and you can feel nothing else. You cant make anymore decisions, act in the right way, or think right. Its hard to know whether you're here or there when you're angered. And in RZA's case he said it came between him and his righteousness. I have felt similar ways. After you think about who you are, why you did that, who you want to be, and whats setting you back from being that person. You start seeing things more clearly, having apologies for acting out a certain way because it is not you, or who you want to be. It is hard because people have a strong pull on your emotions if you let them. But the only person in control of your life and your actions is yourself, so no matter what you have to try and focus on who you are no matter what the situation and not let other people feel like you should give up or lose hope.

I believe that it is hard to keep people from making you give up or lose hope. Sometimes giving up is the easier thing to do, rather than continue with hope. When a person has grown up in, and still is in a negative environment, holding on to hope becomes exhausting. That is why poverty stricken and violent neighborhoods are home to families for generations; the hope for a better life becomes a distant thought.Maintaining hope is a fight that people have to continuously fight, especially when everything around them is trying to their hope away.

Daddy-o is RZA'S famous relative,and he is the one who's impacted twelve jewels in RZA's life. they were mental jewels, principles,ways of life to find a different kind of wealth.

The twelve jewels are, Knowledge, wisdom, Understanding, Freedom, Justice, Equality, Food, Clothing, Shelter, Love peace and Happiness. Every individual jewel has it's own wise meaning. Getting the jewels is not an easy task and must be worked hard for. In order to obtain every specific jewel you must access the jewels in order and after you access them one by one like a chain only then have you built your man's character.

Africans in staten island were always happy even though they are crammed in one room not only they like the projects and because they don't take anything for granted as long as they have food clothing and shelter and love of themselves they are content and so they have happiness.

when RZA was eleven years old what three major, changes hit him?
ReplyDeleteWhen RZA was eleven he received news about his uncle Hollis passing away from a heart attack, his mother was four months behind in the rent which led to eviction and his cousin Daddy-O had exposed him to something he was very unfamiliar with called the Twelve Jewels.

Who told the RZA about the twelve jewels and what the all are?

After getting evicted where does RZA reside? He shares in detail that they’re two routes in which can lead him to his new address but he willingly chooses the riskier route. Why do you think he does that? Explain your reasoning with what you've learned about RZA so far in the novel. If you had to choose which path you’d take, which one would it be? Give 2 reasons why that is your choice.

After his family was evicted RZA resided at 64 Targee street, which is very close to the Stapleton projects. I think he chose the riskier route because it gave him more opportunities to experience new and powerful things as well as benefit from the kindness and creativity of those around him. I feel the reasons behind this are because he knew the people around him enough, so that even though it was one of the toughest neighborhoods in New York he could feel confident and safe enough to go through them. He also could fulfill his curiosity.
DeleteIf I had to choose which path I would take, I would probably take the longer path. The reason is that I would want to see the bustle and faces of the neighborhood around me. I usually take the longer routes when I walk downtown to look out for cool places and familiarize myself with the wonderful city around us. It might be the riskier choice but if I keep myself confident and make the right friends, I'd feel much safer.

In the Second Pillar the RZA speaks of horror movies and how "some of the deepest wisdom comes from horror movies." He spoke of how the Night of the Living Dead movies all had parables to american culture and treatment of the black population.
